Formula One Legends: World Championship 1999

The 1999 Formula One season was the 50th FIA Formula One World Championship season. It commenced on March 7, 1999, and ended on October 31 after sixteen races. The season saw the introduction of a new event to the World Championship calendar, the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The Formula 1 1999 season began with evidence that would be another year with Hakkinen-Schumacher dispute between pilots and Ferrari-McLaren between the teams. The second one is confirmed, but not the first.

Michael Schumacher was one of the favorites for the title when he suffered an accident during the British Grand Prix and stayed out of six races of the championship.

Then Eddie Irvine, Schumacher’s teammate, joined the fight for the championship against Finland’s Mika Hakkinen. While another Finn, Mika Salo, replaced the German at Ferrari with bad performances.

But with a difference of only two points, Hakkinen won the Formula 1 world champion. While Ferrari won the constructors’ title.
