Formula One Legends: World Championship 1974

1974 season, the 25th Formula One World Championship was composed of 15 races, which started on January 13th and ended on October 6th.

Not too many technical changes from 1973, but only the racing numbers which became permanent for the driver after being introduced in the middle of the 1973 season.

Ford engined cars are sure of their potential, after that in the previous season only cars with this type of engine were able to achieve the victory. Ferrari had too fast drivers though, the alpine team composed by Clay Regazzoni form Switzerland and Niki Lauda from Austria, which were able and ready to battle the superiority of Ford engined cars.

McLaren, Brabham and Ferrari were the best cars at the start and Lotus were instead having reliability issue and their driver couldn’t show his skills completely although winning three races.

The championship went on with Fittipladi and Regazzoni in nip & tuck battle, till the last race where they arrived with the same points.

Regazzoni unfortunately ended in the fields due to handling problems and Fittipaldi, who arrived fourth, grabbed the overall championship title.

At the end of the season Hulme retired, while two drivers lost their life during the championship, Revson in South Africa, during practices and Koiningg during the US GP. New cars were tested during the year, but they didn’t have a big success: Graham Hill  driving Hesketh Team, Roger Penske and Parnelli Jones on their own cars and Chris Amon with the Token and then with the Trojan again didn’t succeed.
