Formula One Legends: World Championship 2011

Posted: January 14, 2013 in Uncategorized

The 2011 season witnessed the domination of a team (Red Bull) and a pilot (Sebastian Vettel).

Vettel won the title in advance after the third place in the Grand Prix of Japan at the end of the season, he scored 134 points more than team mate Webber and went 122 ahead of runner-up Jenson Button.

Button, incidentally, made one of the best seasons of his career. Even without having a car to compete against Red Bull, he won three races and was well ahead of the team’s star, Lewis Hamilton, the world’s pilots.

Hamilton had a season to forget: controversies, accidents and poor performance on the track.

Who also had a bad year was the Ferrari. The car was born bad and Fernando Alonso carried the team on his back during the whole championship. Amounted to more than double the points of teammate Felipe Massa won the only victory of the season and Ferrari all podiums and also on the team.

Massa out of 2011 more pressed than ever. After the accident that took out half of the 2009 season, he did not show the same performance.

Off the slopes, the highlight of the season was on account of the development of cars: mainly related to leakage. Red Bull has developed a system for blowing gas diffuser, providing aerodynamic pressure gain. This model was banned in 2012 after consideration of the FIA who spent a lot of fuel and would go against the current policy of the federation, a more sustainable F1.

Another point of attention in the season was in the front wing of the RB7, Red Bull. Hailed as one of the main secrets of the car, the team was accused by rivals of having a flexible wing, which is prohibited by regulation.

At the end of the year, Ferrari has adopted a similar system, in preparation for the 2012 car.
