On March 23rd started the 37th Formula One World Championship, which ended after sixteen races on October 26th.

McLaren started the championship with the best intentions to take another championship title, but Williams, of the duo Piquet Mansell didn’t want to leave the battle-field. Turbo engines were compulsory while the aspirated engines were banned for the season: this brought the fuel economy savvy cars to be the most competitive and reliable cars.

2 new events were scheduled for 1986 championship: the Hungarian GP and the Mexican GP, which was coming back to the calendar after 16 years of absence.

Sadly during the tests at the Paul Ricard Circuit, in France, few days after the Monago GP, Elio de Angelis was killed during an accident. As said the championship revealed to be a duel in between the two British team McLaren and Williams, and Alain prost leveraged some pneumatics issues occurred to the TAG Porsche engine McLaren and won his 2nd titles in a row, repaying back all the sufferences from 1983 and 1984 seasons were ended as runner-up.
